About Me
Walking through a bead store or bead show is sensory heaven to me; the cool, smooth or textured feel of the beads, the colors, and the way light reflects off of them. My interest in making beaded jewelry probably started with looking for seashells and sea glass on the beach. On hikes, my eyes pierce the ground looking for interesting stones and I have a glass container of small rocks from places that I’ve traveled to. I have been making beaded jewelry for several years now and while keeping mindful of trends, I like to make my pieces as timeless as I can. The hardest part of beading is trying not to let my playful dog, McGuinn, distract me by dropping a ball or toy at my feet, the wagging of his big plume tail, and his looking up at me with anticipation.
My Materials
Part of the fun in creating my jewelry pieces is finding exciting semiprecious stone beads, swarovski crystal beads, czech glass beads, lampwork glass beads, fresh water pearls, sterling silver and gold-filled findings (i.e. clasps, connector beads) and other interesting beading and wire wrapping materials. Then the fun continues in trying to come up with unique and wearable jewelry pieces. There are so many semiprecious stone beads to choose from with what seems like an endless chasm of names – such as turquoise, amythest, quartz, garnet, moonstone, laborodite, chryosporase, carnelian, Peruvian opal, ocean jaspar, aquamarine, citrine, tanzanite, peridot, snowflake obsidian, and the list goes on and on…. It is important to use sturdy stringing materials and I often use Beadalon 49 strand wire. I want to be sure the jewelry pieces last a long time. Please refer to the page with care of jewelry pieces so you can keep your jewelry in good shape and looking new.
